6 Signs It's Time to Replace Your Mattress
A worn-out mattress can wreck your sleep long before it looks worn out. Here are the signs it's quietly time for a new one.

You've had it longer than you think
Most mattresses are built to last somewhere between seven and ten years. The trouble is that they wear out slowly, so the decline sneaks up on you. You adjust to the dip and the stiffness a little at a time, and one day you realize you haven't slept well in months. Here's how to tell when a mattress is past its prime.
1. You wake up sore
If you go to bed fine and wake up with a stiff back, achy hips, or sore shoulders, your mattress may no longer be supporting you. A bed that's lost its structure lets your spine fall out of alignment overnight, and your body pays for it in the morning.
2. You sleep better somewhere else
Here's a telling test: you sleep great in a hotel or at a friend's place, then come home to restless nights. If another bed consistently beats yours, the problem is probably the mattress, not your schedule.
3. You can see or feel it sagging
Visible dips, lumps, or a permanent body impression mean the materials have broken down. Once a mattress sags, no amount of flipping or topping will fully fix it. The support is simply gone.
4. It's noisy or the edges give out
Creaking coils and edges that collapse when you sit on them are signs the internals are failing. If you find yourself rolling toward the middle or feeling like you might slide off, the structure has worn through.
5. Your allergies are worse
Over the years, mattresses collect dust mites, dead skin, and allergens. If you wake up congested or sneezing and it eases as the day goes on, an old mattress could be part of the problem.
6. It's simply old
Even if nothing obvious is wrong, age alone is reason to look. Past about eight years, most mattresses have quietly lost a step. If yours is in that range and your sleep isn't what it used to be, you've probably found the culprit.
